We’re grateful to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) for awarding NewRoot a grant to expand our work in Englewood with Rooted Ecosystems. This allows us to build onto our partnerships with schools and extend collaboration to youth-serving organizations, parents, guardians, and families.
Our work is part of CDPH’s broader violence prevention efforts to reduce harm, support trauma recovery, and strengthen community well-being across Chicago. This initiative is a component of the city's Healthy Chicago strategic plan to build safer, healthier communities.
Through this work, NewRoot will partner with schools, community organizations, and families to strengthen connection and alignment across the spaces where young people learn and grow. This work reflects a shared belief that everyone has a role to play in creating safer, more connected communities for young people.
The core of this effort is simple: young people move through many spaces each day. When those spaces are connected, and adults work in alignment to build trust and support well-being, young people experience consistency and care. That consistency strengthens relationships and contributes to safer, more supported communities.

NewRoot is working alongside schools and community partners in Englewood to strengthen how adults support young people across the spaces they move through each day.
As part of this work, Englewood-based nonprofit and grassroots organizations are invited to join a network focused on building stronger relationships and supporting youth at NO COST.
We'll partner with your staff and nearby schools to strengthen communication, build trust, and navigate challenges in more connected ways.
Participating organizations will receive:
- Facilitated sessions for staff and youth
- Ongoing collaboration with school and community partners
- Practical tools to strengthen relationships and team culture
